Marvel’s Wolverine: Everything We Know

At this years Sony PlayStation Showcase, we were given a delicious taste of what’s to come in superhero gaming as Marvel’s Wolverine was announced to tantalising excitement. The teaser showed the fallout of what appears to be an epic bar fight. No gameplay footage was shown, however, the cinematic was cool enough that fans are convinced this game will be epic.

Let’s dig into everything we do, and everything we don’t know about this upcoming game.

Official Marvel’s Wolverine Trailer

Once again, this is only a bite sized trailer.

The dour tone and slew of unconscious (hopefully) bodies simply screams Wolverine. Logan is sitting at the bar, enjoying a drink after building up quite the thirst. His nonchalonce regarding the scene that just unfolded allows me to believe the developers really understand this character.

You can watch the trailer above.

Who Is Developing Marvel’s Wolverine

Personally, this is the part that has me believing this will be an epic game. Marvel’s Wolverine is being developing by Insomniac Game. Insomniac have been on something of a role for the last few years. They were responsible for bringing Peter Parker and Miles Morales to life in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, respectively. Both web-slinging games were simply terrific, and I’m so pumped that Insomniac are taking on the Wolverine character.

Insomniac recently released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The game received rapturous favour from critics and fans alike.

When Is Marvel’s Wolverine Released?

As of yet, no release date has been announced. There isn’t even a release window.

Considering Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is looking at an early 2023 release, you can expect it might be quite a while before Marvel’s Wolverine hits our consoles.

Marvel’s Wolverine is apparently in very early development. This explains why we didn’t see any actual gameplay footage in the reveal trailer.

The extended time before launch isn’t necessarily a bad thing. More recently, games have been poorly received for rushing their final production. Insomniac allowing themselves plenty of time to finish this game will help them give us the Wolverine game we’ve always deserved.

Is This Part of A Marvel Gaming Universe

It would appear that that is indeed the case.

Insomniac seem to have every intention of building out a Marvel Gaming Universe. They’ve already teased the Avengers in both Spider-Man games, so this isn’t a huge surprise.

Since Marvel’s Wolverine will take place in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man, you can definitely expect a game with a similar look and feel. Obviously Logan’s tone will be significantly different to the witty banter pulled out by Peter Parker, but the gameplay mechanics will be largely similar.

Considering the quality of their production thus far, I couldn’t think of a better company to take on an expanded superhero gaming universe.

How Big Will The Game Be?

Marvel’s Wolverine’s Creative Director, Brian Horton, weighed in on the games size. He stated on Twitter that the game will be, “Full size, mature tone”.

In terms of size, that means the game will be more like Marvel’s Spider-Man, and less like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
